Programme

Works by G. Ph. Telemann
Georg Philipp Telemann was the German Baroque composer who enjoyed the greatest success during his lifetime. He died at the age of 86, leaving behind one of the most prolific, diverse and cosmopolitan productions of the first half of the 18th century. Blessed with exceptional talent and great curiosity, he constantly adapted his style to the European tastes of the moment —especially to the French and the Italians'. However, he also had an ear for the popular music of his time. Sweet Noyse invites us to discover a young 24-year-old Telemann during his time in Count of Promnitz's service, in Silesia (now Poland). There, he discovered Polish and Hanak dances of great beauty, performed by folk musicians endowed with an inventiveness that, in his words, "could inspire you for a whole life". This East wind never ceased to inspire his later works.
