FORTUNA D'UN GRAN TEMPO

Guillaume Dufay was one of the most prominent and prolific European composers of the 15th century, a key figure during the transition from the Middle Ages to the Renaissance. His work includes elements from both periods and reflects the evolution of the musical language of his time. He spent the main part of his career in Italy, where he performed as a cantor of the papal chapel under the pontificates of Martin V and Eugene IV. Later, he started working at the service of the House of Savoy and as a singing master at the cathedral of Cambrai, one of the most influential musical centres of his time. In Italy, this paradigmatic example of traveling musician coincided with Arnold and Hugo de Lantins, also of Franco-Flemish origin, with whom he probably maintained a close relationship. His supposed friendship with Gilles Binchois –although controversial–, referred to by Martin Le Franc in Le champion des dames, is better known, though.
