El Pont de Suert

Situated at the gateway of the Pyrenees, El Pont de Suert is one of the mountain municipality that gathers most landscape diversity in north-western Catalonia. It hosts more than 2,000 inhabitants spread over around twenty villages and is the capital of Alta Ribagorça region, whose natural and cultural values invite the visitors for a discovery. From the vertical rocky areas of Sant Gervàs mountain range to the panoramic views of Miravet and El Corronco mountains and Els Vedats d’Erta Peak, by way of the lush forests of La Faiada, you can enjoy the peace of the local well-preserved nature. The Romanesque and Baroque churches of the municipality are distributed all over the territory, such as Santa Maria (in Viu de Llevata), Sant Salvador and Mare de Déu de les Neus (Irgo), Sant Sadurní (Esperan), Sant Bartomeu (Erta) and Sant Climent (Iran). Don’t miss El Pont de Suert’s old town, with its streets, porches, squares and bridges over the river Noguera Ribagorçana. The New Church of the Bridge, the Collection of Sacred Art of the Old Church and Ca de Jaumot Museum are some of the local cultural references. The end of June and July is time for the Falles in Pont, Llesp and Casòs: an ancestral fire celebration that is designated a UNESCO World Heritage festivity.
