Bella divina aurora. Sebastián Durón and his time

Víctor Sordo Vicente, tenor
Sonia Gancedo, alto
Sara Águeda, historical harps

Works by S. Durón, D. Fernández de Huete, A. Martín y Coll, J. Serqueira de Lima and C. Galán.
Sebastián Durón is one of the greatest representatives of Baroque music in the Iberian Peninsula. After being named organist of the Charles II’s Royal Chapel, he became a chapel master with the accession of the Bourbon dynasty. Durón experienced thus the transition of power between Habsburgs and Bourbons, which changed the liking for clearly Hispanic traditional music (Durón, Hidalgo, Navas, etc.) in favour of the later italicisation of the Chapel, whose reference authors became Brunetti, Corselli and Boccherini, among others. In 1706, he was arrested for receiving Austrian archduke Charles’s troops at Madrid gates and was forced to take up exile. In this programme, VN presents a series of solo and duo human and divine tones that belong to Durón’s scenic works.
