Alàs i Cerc

Located in the region of the Alt Urgell, Vilanova de Banat is a village that belongs to the municipality of Alàs i Cerc, along with Alàs, Torres d’Alàs, Cercs, Artedó, La Bastida d’Hortons, el Ges, Lletó (an uninhabited site), the Sanctuary of Santa Maria de les Peces and different farmhouses and hermitages found in different locations of this broad area. Alàs i Cerc is situated in the left bank of the Segre. The first spurts of the imposing mountain range of El Cadí are very close to the municipality and even especially closer to the village of Vilanova de Banat, where we can find the church of Santa Cecília, considered a popular work since it was built by the territory’s inhabitants themselves. The temple has just one nave and is already mentioned in the Act of Consecration of La Seu d’Urgell (from the 10th century).
