Esterri d'Àneu

There are many reasons why one should visit these valleys, whether in winter in Espot's skiing resort or in summer hiking in the National Parc of Aigüestortes and the Lake of Sant Maurici. One can also visit theRomanesque churches of these millenary landscapes, such as Santa Maria d'Àneu church in Escalarre, with one of the most important Romanesque pictorial central apses (the original paintings are in the MNAC) or visit the old Benedictine monastery of St. Pere del Burgal (XI c.), the most important one in these valleys. In Esterri d'Àneu there is the foundation of the Ecomuseu de les valls d'Àneu project which aims to revive the economy of the area with the diffusion of its historical and natural heritage through a series of activities and trails in the region.
