The first half of the 18th century was dominated by one of the most contradictory singing manifestations of the history of music: the castratos. Among the whole scattering of star singers, Farinelli stands out as the castrato soprano from Naples who, during his short 15-year career, revolutionized the art of singing and the concept of virtuosity, and left an indelible legacy in the history of music. Farinelli has emerged as one of the best examples of singing virtuoso thanks to his incredible ease to overcome the most complex obstacles of the works, to his extraordinarily wide tessitura, and to his almost superhuman control of the air and lung capacity. The programme recovers some of the arias that became his visiting card as well as others that many composers wrote expressly for him.
