Gerri de la Sal

Baix Pallars, the most southern municipality in Pallars Sobirà region, is very abundant in natural sites and cultural heritage. The former include Collegats gorge and the Argenteria rock formation, which inspired the famous architect Antoni Gaudí and the writer Mosén Cinto Verdaguer; the Sleeping Giant; Pentina and Cuberes vast wooded masses, which host wood grouses, deer, Egyptian vultures, bearded vultures and common vultures; and Montcortès karstic lake, which has also inspired many legends. The cultural heritage mainly consists of Gerri de la Sal closed town and Santa Maria Monastery, the Alfolí (salt storehouse) and Peramea closed village. The little Romanesque churches that are spread around the municipality and the megalithic remains of Pla de Corts (the dolmens of Peramea and Peracalç) are also worth the trip.
