Castell de Mur

Located in the region of El Pallars Jussà, the municipality of Castell de Mur comprises seven villages: Cellers, Collmorter, Guàrdia, Meüll, Puigmaçana, Santa Llúcia and Vilamolat. They are geographically delimited by El Montsec and La Noguera Pallaresa. The municipality’s toponym discloses its great Romanesque jewel, the Castle and the Collegiate de Mur). The Castle, which belongs to the 10th century and shows an original triangular-shaped floor, is a wonderful example of the Medieval Age military architecture that has lasted until today in a very good state of conservation. The reproductions of the wall paintings are located in the apse of the Collegiate (the original ones are now in the Museum of Fines arts, in Boston), and they are one of the most significant exemplars of the Romanesque art. Aside from the great Romanesque and Middle Ages’ potential, this is also an excellent place for star-gazing (the municipality’s sky has been declared Starlight Reserve) and it has a wide range of sports activities in a natural environment.
