Francisco Guerrero is considered one of the greatest Hispanic composers in the Renaissance, together with Tomás Luís de Victoria and Cristóbal de Morales. His work includes all the genres of religious and profane music of that time and is a clear example of how text harmonization and melody evolved in the mid 16th century. Guerrero worked in Seville for almost all his life and served the cathedral of that city –which he became choirmaster of– for more than 50 years. A5 Vocal Ensemble pays tribute to him through the presentation of a collection of 5-voice pieces mainly focused on the Virgin Mary, like the monumental Ave Vigro sanctíssima, which opens the programme.
